Baseball Equipment Storage

Baseball Equipment Storage
So you’ve invested a fair amount of time and money in choosing and purchasing your baseball equipment, but now it’s nearing the end of the season. How do you store your sporting equipment when it’s not in use so when you go to use it next season it’s still in great shape and easily usable?Caring for your baseball equipment in the off-season can actually make an impact on how it performs when you need it. Don’t reverse any care and customizing you’ve done for your baseball equipment by discarding them without thought during winter months. Baseball BatsMost baseball bats have weather restrictions in order to maintain their integrity. Using a baseball bat in weather cooler than 60 degrees Fahrenheit can end up being very harmful to a bat. The lower temperatures cause the density of a bat to change, thereby causing the bat’s make-up to become more brittle and more prone to cracks and dents. Lower temperatures can also cause baseballs and softballs to become harder, which could also...

Heater Sports Products

Heater Sports Products
The Heater brand of products is known for being an affordable “entry level” product. Trend/Heater provides pitching machines, batting tees, hitting nets, soft toss machines, and a number of other products. Heater products have their place in the market and I caution anyone that is going to purchase a Heater product to make sure they consider what type of usage they will have. If you are a high school level baseball or softball player, purchasing a Heater product is probably not in your best interest. It will not be powerful enough or strong enough material for this level, depending on what you purchase. Heater products however can be a great fit for a younger player trying to explore their interest level in baseball or softball. Heater products are a bit less expensive and good products to use as a parent or player attempting to find out if baseball or softball is a long-term fit for themselves or their kids. There is an exception to this where a high school level player can...

Hitting 101- Hitting Stance

Hitting 101- Hitting Stance
For a hitter, the starting positon (stance) can be just as important as the swing mechanics itself. So much of hitting is about the hitter’s ability to make adjustments to the pitcher to have success. As a hitter you will have a very tough time making adjustments in the swing if your stance is not consistent each time you step up to the plate. Each hitting coach will have different techniques they may like to teach you as a hitter. The goal for you should be finding the most comfortable, yet effective stance for you to be ready to attack any pitch in the strike zone. ...

Catching 101 - Receiving

Catching 101 - Receiving
There are many ways coaches and instructors teach receiving a ball from the pitcher, but there is always one constant task that is taught, to be quiet with the glove and to be strong with the glove. To be short, a catcher wants minimal movement from the glove, all the way to the head and feet when receiving the baseball. ...

The Hitting Jack-It Training System

The Hitting Jack-It Training System
From the earliest days of baseball, players have added heavy weights to their bats during batting practice to build strength and, in theory, get more power at the plate. From heavy bats and iron bars to crude lead donuts, players and trainers have tried everything to increase power and bat speed, not always with optimal results. Today’s baseball and softball players reap the benefits of 175 years of painstaking research with the development of the perfect batting practice system – Hitting Jack-It Training System.Professional hitting coaches and scientists now all agree that despite tradition and popular belief, practicing your swing with too much weight on the end of your bat can actually slow down your bat speed at the plate. The introduction of Hitting Jack-It Training System, a progressive, variable weighted training system for batting practice is changing behaviors at batting practices throughout the sport. The beauty of the Hitting Jack-It system is a player’s ability to hit...

Youth Pitching Rotation

Youth Pitching Rotation
I coached a high school feeder program team for 10 years between my two boys and during that time learned the importance of developing a pitching rotation for my team. There are numerous reasons this is important, but to me the most important one is to save youth pitching arms! My whole point in developing a rotation was to make sure I didn’t overuse any of the pitchers. I developed a rotation of who was going to pitch when and stuck to it no matter what, sacrificing many wins over the years. Also children develop at varying speeds, so that boy that wasn’t as good as a youth may end up being the star down the road. Giving them an opportunity to pitch when they are younger will be a big benefit for them down the road. ...
